Skywatch#16 Sabtang LightHouse, Batanes

As we waited for our boat's arrival, we had lunch and took pictures at the port of Sabtang, Batanes. We had overcast skies that day and we prayed that it would clear for safer journey going back to Basco. Thankfully, it did.

Sabtang is one of the ten islands of Batanes islands, northernmost part of the Philippines. It is about 190 kilometers south of Taiwan.

My World#56 Rockies, Mt. Apo, Mindanao

This is the grandfather of the Philippine mountains, Mt. Apo. Standing at 2954 meters, it is the highest mountain of the Philippines and a popular mountain climbing destination especially during summer. There are several trails leading to its summit and it takes about 2-4 days to reach its peak.

Mt. Apo

Considered as one of the more difficult trail is the Kapatagan Trail which passes thru the rocky portion of the mountain that faces the town of Kapatagan (right side of the picture).

The above picture is the start of the "rockies" part of Mt. Apo where climbing means jumping from one giant volcanic rock to the other. It was raining when we did this climb which serendipitously was an advantage for all of us as the volcanic rocks were quite warm to our touch. We can smell and see sulphur smoke emitting from the vents between the rocks and it would have been a very difficult climb if it had been a hot day.

Fogs covered the cityscape behind us while we tackle the rockies.

Skywatch#15 Out Into The Track and Field

Took this picture while on an ocular inspection for the proposed office sportsfest site for this year. It was a hot, hot day but there were some clouds hovering around. I used my Nokia 2700 cellphone camera for this picture.

My World#55 Ocean Park Rides (Hongkong)

Truth be told, I like the Ocean Park rides more than Disneyland Hongkong rides. I find the Ocean Park rides more exciting and my friends actually agree with this. So, here are some of the popular rides in Ocean Park, Hongkong.

Photobucket

The Dragon is considered the longest roller coaster in Hongkong. It is one of the rides inside Ocean Park and is made of steel with a maximum speed of 77 km/h with 842 metres of track. The ride lasts approximately 2.5 minutes.

The Abyss Turbo Drop is a 5-second vertical fall from a 20-story high ride.

My World#54 Grand Lisboa, Macau

Photobucket

Grand Lisboa is a casino hotel and restaurant that houses 430 hotel rooms and suites. It is a 58-story skyscraper in Macau and offers 268 mass gaming tables and 786 slot machines.

What is more interesting in this place for me is not so much the casino but just two things: the kaleidoscope of lights during the night that attracts a lot of tourists to take pictures outside the Grand Lisboa (like what we did) and last but the best attraction for me was the Star of Stanley Ho which is on permanent display inside the building. The Gemological Institute of America says that the 218.08 carats (43.62 g) diamond is the largest cushion shaped internally flawless D-color diamond in the world. In his unveiling speech, Dr. Ho said that the diamond, which is named after him, reflects SJM's timeless commitment to Macau. (source: wikipedia)

Skywatch#14 Early Morning at Sabang

We waited for our boat ride to Caramoan at the town of Sabang. The place was quite with just a few people milling around. Fishermen were starting to come home with their catches. While there, we had our breakfast by the beach and took some pictures after.

My World#53 Peace Archway, Chinatown

For the past two or three years, three archways were constructed as landmarks for the established Chinatown in Davao City. I have already featured here the first constructed archway. The next two were constructed and were finished almost at the same time just last 2009.

The Peace Archway is one of the two newly constructed archways in the Chinatown area. It is located along Sta. Ana Ave.,just beside the Davao City Chinese School.
