Skywatch#48 Land of Promise

Davao City has long been known as the Land of Promise. With its verdant land and different people from different tribes living side by side harmoniously, the city has long been living up to its name.

This iconic sign of the "Land of Promise" is located on a hill inside GAP Farm Resort. It has long been there since I can remember. GAP Farm itself is a popular destination among weekend vacationers and visitors because of its rural charm located just inside the city limits.

My World#88 On A Photoshoot

I went to my 2nd photography workshop last weekend. It was fun, intimidating, challenging, creative and brain cell production inducing activity for me. Did I say the same things on my previous workshop? Probably so.

Photobucket

Anyway, we went to GAP Farm on our 2nd day for the photoshoot. It has been ages since I've been to this place. There were some changes and I was really happy to see the place again after a long time.

The day started right with the sun shining brightly, good sign for the photoshoot session but suddenly, overcast skies appeared. It started to drizzle. We did our shoots fast and took cover. Good thing, the drizzle went as suddenly as it came.

Funny thing about this model...we were shooting away and she was gamely posing. Then, she realized that she might have the wrong group of photographers and started mouthing to her friend "What group should I be posing to? Are these the photographers?" Teehehee! We couldn't care less. We were busy taking her pictures. She then walked out when it started to rain:)

I still have a lot to learn with this new hobby of mine but one thing's for sure, if you want to slim down without exercising, take photography as a hobby. You'll sweat buckets!

Skywatch#47 Kennon Road, Baguio

It's the shortest route going to Baguio City from the lowlands especially Manila but for travelers who cannot take the stomach churning zigzag roads, Kennon Road could be the most torturous.

I grew up quite curious about this road as my mother kept mentioning that it was the scariest road she'd ever been. There was no choice because back then, it was the only way up going Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines. Finished in 1903, it was once considered as a summer haven for American expats escaping the scorching summer days. Baguio has now evolved into one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines. Consequently, Kennon Road is now just one of the three major roads going up Baguio.

When we got to the Kennon Road's viewpoint, fogs covered the undulating mountains. I could barely see the zigzag roads and the famous giant Lion Head monument. In a little while though, the fogs cleared up and the wet winding roads became visible like winding ribbons.

My World#87 Bat In Captive at Philippine Eagle Center

This is the entrance area of the Philippine Eagle Center at the mountain slopes of Calinan, Davao City.

Photobucket

Before entering the eagle center, I saw this bat hanging by a bamboo pole. It was about a foot tall. Owned by one of the stall owners lining the perimeter of the Philippine Eagle center premises, it was taken into captivity when it was still a baby after its mother was killed for food by poachers.

The poor bat never learned how to fly. It was injured with one broken wing from falling the tree whlie its mother was being hunted. I wondered if he would've done better if he had some of his kind to help him through the learning process on how to fly on his own despite its injuries. On the other hand, he  may be in the better place right now with his owner fussing over him, treating him like a real pet.

I was able to touch him but he fretted and hissed (if I could call it that way..it's more like screech) and would only calm down if his owner comes near.

Skywatch#46 Calm Waters of Caramoan

Taken from one of the isolated islands of Caramoan Peninsula, Camarines Sur. The island was one of the locations for the Survivor Europe Reality Show. For us, it was a little peace of heaven with its calm waters, beautiful landscape and the island all for ourselves.

Skywatch#45 Red-White Sky

Photo was taken at the street fronting the Rizal Park during the Kadayawan Festival last August this year. The main streets of our city were filled with these buntings, quite festive and pretty to see.

My World#85 Kadayawan Floral Floats

Here're some of the floral float-participants for the Kadayawan Festival's Floral Float parade last month. The floats were required to be made mostly of fruits, vegetables, seeds, flowers and produces harvested/found in the city and its surrounding areas.

The event is usually held every 3rd sunday of August every year, the day after the Indak-indak sa Kadalanan (Dancing In the Streets) is usually held. I've observed that for this year, the number of floral float participants is lesser compared to the previous years. I had fun with the floats for this year though and I just hope there will be more participants next year.
