Skywatch#5 Philippine Churches Part 3: Betis Church, Pampanga

This is the facade of Betis Chuch, Pampanga. The facade has simple lines and bore the years of antiquity of the church. It also belies the beauty of the interior of the church which is called the Sistine Chapel of the Philippines.

The picture was taken at almost 6:00 in the evening. The skies were still blue even if the sun was starting to set at that time.

My World#45 Philippine Churches Part 3: Sistine Chapel of the Philippines

If you are planning to visit churches somewhere in Luzon, make sure to visit Betis Church at Guagua, Pampanga. The church's facade may not look as impressive as its contemporaries, but the interiors of the church more than made up for it. Its wood-carved doors are already precursors of what inside, see the door here.

Betis Church is considered the Sistine Chapel of the Philippines. It is located about an hour ride from Manila and the trip is all worth it.

One of the paintings on the ceiling of the church.

Skywatch#4 Dolphins In Hongkong

It was a cold, drizzling day when we decided to buy a ticket for Macau in Shun Tak Centre, Hongkong. Before getting inside to get our tickets, we decided to take some pictures at the back of the building. We found these dolphins with an ongoing building construction with a hole in the centre as the dolphin's backdrop and some foggy skies.

My World #44 Cathedral Island, Hundred Islands, Alaminos, Pangasinan

This is Cathedral cave-island, one of the 124 islands in Hundred Islands National Park, Alaminos, Pangasinan. It was named as such as its shape and entrance looks like a cathedral. It was also said that there are rock formations inside the cave that are shaped like benches of a cathedral. Boats can actually get in the island and see the rock formations inside.

My World#43 Philippine Churches Part II: The Facade of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Baliuag, Bulacan

Contrary to the vibrant colors of the interior of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Baliuag, Bulacan, the facade of the said church is almost devoid of any color. What is interesting though is that this is the only church I have seen so far that has twin belltowers situated on each side of the entrance of the church.

And this is the arc detail by the entrance door of the church.

My World#42 Mayon Volcano, Albay, Bicol

This is Mayon Volcano or Mt. Mayon, the most active volcano in the Philippines. It is considered as the world's most perfectly formed volcano at 8,223 feet high and the most famous landmark of the Bicol Region. It is about 15 kms. away from Legazpi City.

When we got to Legazpi City in the early morning of August 2009, it was spewing more smoke than we had commonly seen in the pictures. We found out from the locals that Alert Level 2 was raised on Mayon for its increased activities starting June 2009. Still, Mayon Volcano is so beautiful especially in the early morning without the clouds hiding its peak. Actually, the best time of the day to see the volcano in its entirety is during the early morning.

Recently, the local government is doing some tourism activities for the region. Lava-watching is allowed at the foot of the volcano but still within the safe zone.

Philippine Churches Part II: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, San Rafael, Bulacan

The interior of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at San Rafael, Baliuag, Bulacan. The color blue is a departure from the usual color of brown of the Carmelites.

These are the details of the ceiling of the church.
