My World#17 Via Cruces, Old Vulcan, Camiguin

Via Cruces or Way of the Cross is found at the slopes of the Old Vulcan, Bonbon, Camiguin. A popular destination during Lenten season, it is where fifteen stations of life-size figures depicting the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is located.






At the fourteenth station, a sepulchre was carved out of the volcanic rocks depicting the burial of Jesus Christ.

The climb takes about one hour going up but it is all worth it as the view at the top is spectacular.

For those who plan to climb this walkway, bring water as it could get very hot out there more especially during summer days.

My World#16 Siargao, Surigao, Philippines

There's another wave coming!!

Siargao is considered the surfing capital of the Philippines. Famous for its Cloud 9 waves, it has been a popular destination for surfers from all over the world for years now. What I really like about Siargao is that it has retained its island-beach laid-back atmosphere inspite of the influx of foreigner-tourists.

Recently, Siargao is also emerging as a popular gamefishing destination. Siargao also has a lot of activities to offer aside from surfing and gamefishing. Siargao boasts of one of the largest mangrove forest in Philippines. Waterfalls, lagoon, secluded beach coves, and island hopping are just some of the activities that can be done in Siargao. And oh by the way, did I mention that they have delicious seafood straight from the seas?

My World#15 Monfort Bat Cave, Samal, Davao del Norte

Home to almost 2,000 fruit bats, Monfort Bat Cave is considered the largest single colony of fruit bats in the world. Bats are mostly seen as scary, unlovable mammals but for environmentalists, they are considered playing an important role in the ecosystem. Fruit bats help spread out the seeds of the fruit trees keeping the biodiversity of a place alive.

Monfort Bat Cave is being managed by Monfort Conservation Park. It is located at Island Garden of Samal, Davao del Norte.

My World#14 Laoag Church, Laoag, Ilocos Norte

Built by the Augustinian Friars during 1580, St. William's Cathedral or more popularly known as Laoag Church is actually older than the more popular Paoay Church of the same province of Ilocos Norte.

Laoag Church is known for its sinking belfry which is located 85 meters away from the church.

My World#13 Tamawan Village, Baguio City

A foreign tourist posing as a model for the Tamawan Village's artists. There are several art pieces being sold in the village aside from being able to get inside the restored ancient Ifugao houses. One can actually choose to stay for a day or two inside the village which sits atop a hill and is overlooking the China Sea.


Several handcrafted wood clocks being sold inside the village's cafeteria. I plan to buy one when I get to return to that place. The clock pieces are quite interesting and not one clock has a duplicate.

Some Ifugao houses have carved dragon heads on each side of the front house posts near the door. If the Chinese have male and female dragons outside their doors, the Ifugao natives have theirs too; however, a male dragon's head comes with a carved penis. On the other hand, the Chinese male dragon outside the housedoor has a ball under its paws while the Chinese female dragon has a baby dragon under its paws.

My World#12 Tam-awan Village, Baguio City

A well-known Filipino international artist, Ben Cabrera or BenCab as he is popularly known, established Tam-awan Village as an artists' haven.

The visibly pregnant statue on the right is the fertility god and it is considered helpful for couples who desire of having a baby to worship and rub its belly to help them conceive.

Some of the paintings shown inside the well-preserved ancient, traditional Ifugao houses in Tam-awan village.

Located in the hilly slopes of Pinsao, Baguio City, the place is not only a haven for artists but also serves as the repository of well-preserved traditional Ifugao Houses.
